Door 16: Use smells to create a Christmas atmosphere
Decorate your home with Christmas scents.
The sense of smell is said to be the strongest and most subconscious of our senses. A smell can take us to a specific moment that happened a long time ago. Smells are strongly connected with emotions and subtly evoke various feelings in us.
Smells can be used to create a Christmas atmosphere. Smells such as the smell of Christmas baking, hyacinths or spruce branches are associated with Christmas.
Sometimes you may bake a sheet of gingerbread just for the smell. Those with more patience can do things like dry orange slices in the oven on a baking sheet until they turn into beautiful and fragrant ornaments that can be used as Christmas tree decorations.
You can also build your own Christmas scent arrangement in an open container to remind you of Christmas every time you pass by. Put spices used in Christmas treats like gingerbread and mulled wine – such as cinnamon sticks, cardamom, cloves and star anise – in the container. You can also add mandarins and oranges.
Let’s make the wait for Christmas wonderful together!
