Valentin has a home field advantage
Valentin Purosalo, a promising young footballer and a Lumo grant* recipient, has lived within a throw-in of a football field his entire life. His journey to playing full-back for Finland’s U15 national team has been somewhat longer than that — and is still going on.
Valentin’s “3 favourite things at home”
Location and access to hobbies
"The Kupittaa Sports Centre is literally across the street from our apartment. There are several football pitches, not to mention many other opportunities for a wide range of hobbies . Also in the area is Veritas Stadion, the home of my current club FC Inter. I have dreamed of playing in front of fans at the stadium since I was a little boy. However, I have a lot more work ahead of me to earn a spot on Inter’s first team and keep my place in the national team."
His own room
"When I’m not at practice, I listen to a lot of music. My taste in music is a bit different from my mum’s, so it’s nice to have my own room for enjoying my music behind a closed door. I also like to spend time on the living room couch, watching films. That’s been a hobby of mine for as long as football has. I’ve gone from watching Mr. Bean to Hercule Poirot and Stanley Kubrick’s films."
His own bed
"Rest is super important for an athlete. Our coaches emphasize that a lot. It’s not enough to be there for every practice session if you don’t remember to rest and recover. And of course, you have to eat well. Fortunately, mum has always taken good care of meal times."
